PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — For those who can’t wait for ice season, the Presque Isle Recreation Department will offer a chance to play outdoor hockey this fall with two different versions of the game.

Street hockey for grades 3-5 will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays from Aug. 24 through Oct. 5. Grades 6-8 will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, from Aug. 26 through Oct. 7.

Mandatory equipment will include shin pads, gloves, helmet and stick. Any of these can be provided if need be.

Roller hockey, geared to players in grades 9-12, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Aug. 27 and going through Oct. 8.

Players should have shin pads, gloves, helmets, elbow pads, roller blades and stick.

All games will be played in “The Cage,” located across from Presque Isle Middle School. PI rec officials said this is a “show up and play” program. Some instruction and guidance will be given, but prior knowledge of the game is a plus.

Registration for all age levels is ongoing until Friday, Aug. 21. The program fee is $35.

Register by visiting pirec.org or by calling 764-2545 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
