PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — No one was injured Wednesday morning when a bus carrying students caught on fire just off the Flagg Bridge in Presque Isle.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Presque Isle Fire Department personnel were on the scene tending to the vehicle.

The Aroostook Regional Transportation System school bus was transporting students to school when the incident occurred, said Dave Dionne, executive director of the local transportation system.

“Everyone was able to be evacuated safely. No one was hurt,” Dionne said. “They were assessed and then went on their way to school via another bus.”

Dionne said they don’t yet know what happened. The driver, who did not want to be identified, safely got the students and himself off the bus and waited for the fire department to arrive.

“It turned out good,” Dionne said. “We were lucky.”
