75 Years Ago – Feb. 10, 1949
Bird’s eye manager awarded cup — Estle Gallop, manager of the Houlton branch of the Bird’s eye Snider division of General Goods Corporation and Joseph D. Nevin, manager of the Caribou branch, were awarded cups at a company banquet in Houlton Friday emblematic of the safety record of their two plants during the past season.

Processed potato’s success in Caribou — A local company is opening a new market for processed potatoes nationwide from Caribou. ‘Fresh From the Start’ potato products were developed by Andy Ayer of Maine Packers and Andy Pollak of Hapco Inc. of New York.

Two skating rinks to open soon — Lloyd Pound, Caribou Recreation director, said Wednesday that if weather conditions remain favorable it is expected that two ice skating rinks will be in operation before Christmas. The rinks this year will be operated at Bridge street grounds and at the Trotting park.

A good turnout for store opening — The opening of the J. J. Newberry store Friday afternoon attracted large crowds throughout the day, it being almost impossible to gain admittance. An orchestra furnished music in the afternoon and evening.
