Cheering competition rescheduled
Due to inclement weather, the Aroostook League Cheering Championships scheduled for last Friday at Caribou High School have been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
Teams participating include Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield, Van Buren, Central Aroostook and Houlton. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
PIHS athlete of the week
The Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Jenn Steeves and Dylan Collins for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of Jan. 8-15.
Steeves placed first in both the slalom and giant slalom events in a recent ski meet held at Fort Kent. Her times were seven seconds better than the rest of the field.
Collins scored three goals to lead the ice hockey team to an 8-2 victory over Hampden Academy.
Student athletes chosen as athletes of the week receive a one-item, large pizza courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
Adult ski lessons rescheduled
Due to inclement weather, the adult opportunity to learn cross country skiing and the citizen’s biathlon and potluck supper originally scheduled for Jan. 17 and 19, respectively, as part of the Nordic Heritage Sports Club and the Aroostook Medical Center’s Learn-to-Ski Week has been rescheduled for Jan. 24 and 26.
The ski event takes place from 6-7:30 p.m. while instruction and a chance to try biathlon runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center with dinner to follow. A fun race is slated for 7 p.m.
Snowmobile ride with Andy Santerre
The third annual snowmobile ride featuring 2002-2005 Busch North Series Champion Andy Santerre is slated for Saturday, Feb. 10 starting at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
This year’s charity ride, dinner and auction benefit the AMHC Sexual Assault Services program and is sponsored by AMHC, Clukey’s Auto, Value Parts Stores and County Sports Polaris. The day-long activity schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and sign-in at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center poolside. The ride begins at 10 a.m. and Santerre will be available for autographs and a social gathering at 4:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 in the main banquet room. The auction commences at 7 p.m.
A donation of $50 gets participants in to both the ride and the dinner/auction or choose one event for $25. Organizers recommend an early sign-up as last year’s event sold out.
