Presque Isle

Grade 5 and 6 girls
basketball playoffs    Carly Bell scored a game high 12 points, including the game winning basket, to help the Mercury to the 14-12 win over the Stars. Amanda Charette scored the other two Mercury points. Sara Gilson paced the Stars with six points. Emma Michalowski chipped in with four points and Elena Ford ended with two points.
The Mercury will now take on the Liberty in the championship, which was rescheduled due to weather. The game will be this Thursday 4:30 p.m.

Grade 5 and 6 boys

Karson Eaton scored 10 of his game high 14 points in the pivotal second quarter to lead the Pistons to the 30-20 come from behind win over the Spurs. Brandon LeBlanc also reached double digits, finishing with 10 points. Hale Cushman contributed four points and Joel Tewksbury scored two points.
Cody Lyford led the Spurs with 10 points, all in the first quarter. Karson Wilcox chipped in with four points and Bradley Shields, Jonathan Rochester, and Michael Guerrette scored two points each.
The Pistons will take on the Celtics Thursday at 6 p.m. in the championship game.

High School Indoor Soccer Tournament
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host its annual indoor soccer tournament for high school students Saturday, March 17 at the Northern Maine Community College.
The tournament has a five-on-five format and teams are limited to 10 players. Deadline for registration is Friday, March 9 at noon. Entry fee is $65 per team.

Youth indoor soccer
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks will offer a youth co-ed indoor soccer program beginning March 8. This is an informal drop-in program with no registration required.
The schedule will be as follows: Thursdays 3:15-4:15 p.m. for grades 3 and 4 and 4:15-5:15 p.m. for grades 5 and 6.
All youth must have shin-guards and sneakers to participate.

Little All-Stars
The PI Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for the Little All-Stars Sports Class. Participants will be introduced to five different sports; soccer, floor hockey, basketball, football and t-ball. Through games and instruction, the focus will be on fun and the basic fundamentals of each sport. The group is open to children ages four and five and will start March 2. The fee is $15 to register for the five-week program which will meet on Friday mornings.

Big Rock ski passes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has discounted lift tickets for Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill. Junior (ages 6 to 17) lift tickets will be sold for $14, or 22-percent off the regular price, while adult lift tickets will be sold for $19, or 24-percent off the regular price.

Youth open gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has started its open gym hours on Sundays and Saturdays throughout the winter from 1-5 p.m. Grades 1-5 are welcome from 1 to 3, and junior high and high school students are welcome from 3 to 5. Available activities include gym games, board games, ping pong, foosball, and pool. There is no cost.

Middle School Only  open gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will offer a middle school only open gym time on Friday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. Students in grades 6-8 are invited to come and participate in open gym and other activities. Possible group activities, such as tubing and bowling, may be scheduled for future dates. This is open to SAD 1 students only.

Fort Fairfield

    Golf program open to area youths
The Aroostook Valley Youth Golf Program is offering indoor instruction for boys and girls ages 9-14 at the Fort Fairfield Community Center beginning Wednesday, March 7.
The program is slated for six consecutive Wednesday with Aroostook Valley Country Club golf professional Steve Leitch providing instruction.
Lessons are free and well be held in three sessions: 3-4 p.m., 4-5 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. Each lesson is limited to 10 participants, so early registration is suggested.
