Easton wins PeeWee tourney

The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department held their 35th Annual Pee Wee Boys Invitational Tournament at the Caribou Middle School recently.  Nine teams from Aroostook County took part in the two day tourney that started Friday night with two games.
    The first game consisted of Fort Fairfield and Mars Hill. Mars Hill came out on top 32-16. Chandler Brewer led the way for the Mars Hill Panthers with 10 points.
In game two, the Washburn Beavers played the Ashland Hornets.  Washburn took the early lead and never looked back as they won 34-20.  Mitch Worcester and Nick Bragg combined had 30 points for Washburn.
Saturday the tournament continued as Caribou hosted Easton in the first game losing 37-32.  Easton dominated the boards and played great defense to stop the Vikings offensive threat.  The Vikes came alive in the fourth outscoring Easton but ran out of time.  Caribou’s leading scorer was Dayne Savage with 15 points.  Easton had two players in the double figures, Jarod Hafford with 12 points and Tyler Gadaire with 11 points.
Game two on Saturday was Madawaska over Limestone with a score of 45-9.  Tim Dechaine was the big offensive contributor for Madawaska with 10 points.  Nate Tucker had 5 points for Limestone.
The third game of the day was Presque Isle who drew the bye against Mars Hill.  Mars Hill again ended up coming out on top 30-15.  Mars Hill had multiple scorers with Chandler Brewer netting eight points.  Kyver Lowe for Presque Isle put in seven points.
Game six of the tournament was a semifinal nail bitter game featuring Washburn and Easton. With everyone on the edge of their seats it was Easton moving on to the Championship game with a score of 37-36 over Washburn.  For Washburn, Mitch Worcester scored a tournament high for a player with 18 points.  Behind him was Nick Bragg dumping in 15 points.  For Easton it was Tyler Gadaire netting 14 points and Jared Hafford putting in 11 points.  Easton’s Carl Mullen had five points and Hunter Turner had six points to help Easton stay on top.
Game seven featured Mars Hill and Madawaska in more semifinal action.  Mars Hill started out with the lead and kept rolling as they won 38-16.  Jacob Canney was the offensive threat for Mars Hill putting in 10 points.  Joe Stiles helped out with seven points.
The Championship game came down to Easton and Mars Hill competing.  Mars Hill was trying to repeat from the year before but fell short by a few points.  After the first quarter Mars Hill took a one point lead.  At the half Mars Hill led 16-10, but Easton was not going to give up.  In the third quarter of play Easton chipped into the lead and then took control in the fourth to go on to win 36-29.  Tyler Gadaire was unstoppable for Easton scoring 11 points.  Carl Mullen stepped up netting 10 points and Justin Guerrette came alive dumping in seven points.  Other scorers for Easton were Jarod Hafford putting in four points and Ian Sodomoyer and Derek Mendoza each scoring two points.  Chandler Brewer of Mars Hill was leading scorer with nine points.  Connor Boulier, Zach McClung, and Steven Decker each had four points.  Joe Stiles and Darren Murray put in three points apiece while Dylan Murray finished with two points.
Players who made the “All Tournamnet Team” were Tyler Gadaire and Carl Mullen from Easton, Conner Beaulier and Chandler Brewer from Mars Hill, Corey Nadeau from Madawaska, and Mitch Worcester from Washburn.
