Skate club welcomes Olympic competitor

  PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Limestone native Kevin O’Keefe has traveled the world competing in skating competitions and Olympic events but returns to Aroostook County this weekend for the annual Skating Club of Maine – Northern Region’s Musical on Ice.

     O’Keefe grew up skating at the Forum in Presque Isle and progressed quickly, moving through the ranks in the skating club before moving to Boston to train full time.
Drawn to ice dancing, O’Keefe has skated with two partners and, most recently took time off to coach and train on his own, while searching for a new partner.
O’Keefe has skated competitively for the U.S. in competitions in Canada, Slovenia, France, Bulgaria and Germany. He is a five-time member of the U.S. Figure Skating team and earned the right to compete in seven National Championships including twice at the senior level.
O’Keefe is a two-time national champion at the intermediate and novice levels and has earned countless medals at the U.S. Sectionals and the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships.
While skating, O’Keefe earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University where he graduated in 2005.
Currently, O’Keefe coaches with the Crystallettes Synchronized Figure Skating Team at the Dearborn Figure Skating Club in Michigan. The team is the current U.S. bronze medalists. He is also employed as an engineer with BlueFin Robotics in Detroit, Mich.
O’Keefe returns to his home ice this weekend in a special guest appearance. Show times are Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
