FORT KENT, Maine – The Caribou Middle School boys brought home second place overall in Aroostook Middle School League Classic County Championship. The meet was held in Fort Kent at the 10th Mountain Center on Friday, March 9.
Teams from around Aroostook County came to push for their best time of the season in the 2.5 kilometer race. Madawaska won the championship with an overall score of 26. Caribou was not far behind with 32 points overall, and Fort Kent took home third with 43 points.
The forth place team was Union #122 with 59 points, followed by the Presque Isle Blue Team with 89, Fort Fairfield with 118, Presque Isle White Team with 119, and Ashland with a score of 136.
Individually, Alex Jandreau of Madawaska secured first place with a time of 8 minutes and 57 seconds. Caleb Chapman, Caribou, came in six seconds after Jandreau with a time of 9:03. Madawaska came through with another skier in the top three, as Jonathan Lee crossed the finish line in 9:15. Logan Doak of Fort Kent came in forth at 9:30 and Caribou’s Christian Sleeper placed fifth with a time of 9:44.
Other Caribou finishers included: Kevin Strid, 11th, Ezzra Duplissie-Cyr, 14th, Matt Cole, 16th, D.J. Flynn, 18th, Phil Smith, 20th, Dylan Ouellette, 23rd, Ben Wyman, 25th, Cole Sirois, 27th, Kjetil Rossignol, 31st and Nolan McDuffie in 36th.
Also for Caribou finishers, Nick Pucci and Ryan Washington secured spots 41 and 42, respectively, Mark Sturzi came in 51st, and Matt Lulof, Michael Boone and Trevor Cyr came in 53rd-55th, respectively. Grahm Freme came in 58th, Devin Cyr, 63rd and Connor Thibeault and Ian Thibeault in places 74 and 75, respectively.
Union #122 had Royce Landeen place seventh with a time of 9:54, Ryan Plante was 12th, Levi Bither, 19th, Dylan Bouchard, 22nd, Ethan Stetson, 29th, Dylan Cyr, 38th and Dann Cyr came in 44th.
Also finishing the race for Union #122 were skiers Jesse Sandstrom and Josh Kovach securing places 47 and 48, Levi Swan, 50th, and Jacob Bither and Jacob Atchison in places 71 and 72, respectively.
Fort Fairfield’s Nathan McLaughlin secured a top-ten spot for his team when he placed eighth. Other Fort Fairfield finishers included: Austin Bixter, 37th, Todd Berube, 62nd, and Spencer Campbell at 67th.
The Presque Isle Middle School boys had two teams competing, the Blue Team and the White Team. Issac Lajoie, Blue Team, placed 17th in the meet. Also finishing for the Blue Team included: Jesse Rochester, 24th, Cole Richard, 28th, Alex Tuttle, 30th, and Jon Rochester, 32nd. Also finishing for the Blue Team, James Bradley placed 39th, Matt Sullivan, 46th, Evan Waddell, 52nd, Dakota Dinatale, 61st, and Junaid Siddiqui, who finished in 66th.
Completing the meet for the White Team included skiers: Paul Elish, 21st, Caleb Mathers, 35th, Jacob Towle, 40th, Jake Player, 43rd, Jonah Stephenson, 45th and Cody Merrill, who placed 49th.
Also for the White Team, Micheal McPherson and Freeman Short secured places 56 and 57, Gabe Player and Dan Sanipass came in 59th and 60th, respectively, and Aaron Whitaker rounded out the PI White Team with 68th place.
Ashland skiers finishing the championship race included: Dylan Cyr-Cormier and Joseph Day, in 33rd and 34th, respectively, Josh Wortman and Amos Ward in spots 64 and 65, Tyler Durand, 69th, and Issac Wortman and Brett Stratton rounding out the Ashland finishers in 74th and 75th, respectively.
