PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Forty-one players and guests attended the annual Gentlemen’s Hockey League Awards Banquet at the Mai Tai Restaurant on the evening of March 14. The University of Maine at Presque Isle, the 2007 playoff winner, had its name put on the Dunc Beaton Cup. UMPI received two trophies, one for winning the playoffs and one for coming in first place during the regular season. The Aroostook Medical Center also received a trophy for placing second in the playoffs.
League President Carl Morneau presented Darren Carlisle, of Exquisite Homes, the GHL T-shirt as the league’s top scorer with 76 points. UMPI players also received GHL T-shirts for their playoff win. Opal Lee, who has been attending the GHL games since the league started in the early 1980s, was recognized as the league’s most outstanding fan. Team leaders commented on the strength of the league and the high caliber of play. Goalie Bob Eager said at playoff time, it’s like a new season and any team has a chance to win.

In first, UMPI, with 19 wins, 1 loss, and 38 points; second Exquisite Homes/PRO FAB with 15 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie, 1 overtime loss, and 32 points; third, TAMC, with 10 wins, 10 losses, and 20 points; fourth place went to Houlton/Zach’s Express, with 8 wins, 10 losses, 1 tie, 1 overtime loss, and a score of 18 points’ fifth, State Farm, with 7 wins, 12 losses, 1 tie, 1 overtime loss, and 15 points; and Northern Maine Community College came in sixth with 0 wins, 19 losses, 1 tie, 1 overtime loss, and 1 point.
The top 10 players overall points, calculated by goals and assists, were: Darren Carlisle in first, playing for Exquisite Homes, with 46 goals and 30 assists; Pierre Patenaude, Exquisite Homes, in second, with 30 goals and 39 assists; third place, Chris Nelson, of UMPI, with 36 goals and 16 assists; fourth, John Cole, for Exquisite Homes, with 31 goals and 19 assists; and fifth place belonged to Doug Carlisle, for Exquisite Homes, with 24 goals and 25 assists.
Matt Wilson placed sixth for Exquisite Homes, with 24 goals and 20 assists; UMPI’s Darcy Lennon scored 28 goals and 11 assists, for seventh; a tie for eighth for 35 total points, with Eric St. Peter, playing for Exquisite Homes,17 goals and 18 assists and Sean Daigle, for TAMC, 21 goals and 14 assists; and tenth was Rafe Longuer, for NMCC, with 17 goals and 13 assists.
