The parent company of WEGP – 1390 AM radio in Presque Isle has been informed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that effective March 21, its license to operate and transmit at 25,000 watts has been granted.
Significant investment has been made in state of the art broadcast and transmission equipment. The equipment has been installed.
“We began the permit process in November and we are happy to be done, despite the challenges of completing a multi-stage construction project during a northern Maine winter,” said Pat Patterson, Operations Manager at WEGP-1390.
Beginning this week, WEGP -1390 AM will initiate its broadcasting from the upgraded transmission site on the Chapman Road in Presque Isle. Listeners in central and southern Aroostook County will notice an immediate and permanent increase in the quality and strength of the broadcast signal. By Memorial Day, the transition from the current 5,000 watt signal to the full 25,000 watts will be complete and the full power of the WEGP -1390 signal will reach the St. John Valley.
Established in 1960, WEGP -1390 AM will continue to broadcast talk radio programming and Red Sox baseball. WEGP -1390 AM will deliver national news on the hour from Fox News Radio.
WEGP -1390 AM will initiate a new, locally-produced morning show, “Good Morning Aroostook”, will be featured from 6 to 9 a.m. weekdays. The weekend program schedule will be improved with programming on special areas of interest such as; automotive, gardening, do-it-yourself, personal finance, pets, computers and technology, travel, antiques, hunting and fishing, sports and food.
The parent company of WEGP – 1390 AM looks forward to eagerly serving the entire Aroostook County (and western New Brunswick) market with its new 25,000 watt broadcast signal. “I am humbled and proud to be able to continue the tradition of WEGP in Aroostook County”, said Paul Decelles, president of WEGP -1390.
“We have officially grown into our station’s slogan with the signal upgrade – The Talk of the County will truly become the Talk of the County, as our AM signal will cover Aroostook County in its entirety, from Medway to Madawaska. The staff and I are excited about the prospects of serving thousands more listeners and hundreds of new advertisers with one of the most powerful AM radio signals in the state of Maine,” Decelles said.
