April Vacation Activities
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department plans a variety of activities for area youth during the school vacation, April 16-20. Due to limited spaces available, some activities require pre-registration. Registration begins Monday, April 9.
   Monday, April 16 will be Contest Day for grades 1-5 from 1-3 p.m. at the community center. Kids can participate in tournaments of checkers, ping-pong, connect-four, pop-a-shot and more. The event will take place during open gym with no cost or registration required.
A Wiffleball Home Run Derby will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at Mantle Lake Park for grades 5-8. The contest will begin at 1 p.m. with no cost or registration needed. In the morning, grades 1-8 can go bowling at Northern Lanes between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.. The cost is $3 per person, which includes three strings of bowling and shoes. Participants must have their own transportation to and from the lanes. Individuals pay when they get there.
On Wednesday, April 18, for grades 1-5, a trip to the Caribou Cinemas is scheduled to see a movie (either TMNT or Meet the Robinsons).     The cost is $5 each, which includes transportation, admission, popcorn and a soda. Pre-registration is required by April 17 and space is limited.
The annual “Peanut Carnival” will take place Thursday, April 19 from 1:30-3 p.m. for elementary youth. No actual peanuts are used. Admission to the midway and all the fun and games is $1, which will include a chance to win a bicycle.
Friday, April 20, grades 1-8 are invited to go roller-skating at Melody Roller Rink in Caribou. The cost is $4 per child, which includes roller-skates. Those interested must pre-register by April 18 and space is limited. The bus leaves the center at 12:30 p.m. and returns at 3:30 p.m. Also during the afternoon, the Presque Isle Indoor Pool is having its “Dollar Day” for Presque Isle residents from 3-4:45 p.m.
Open Gym will be held every day during vacation week: 1-3 p.m. for elementary youth and 3-5 p.m. for middle school and high school youth. Reminder, the last day of open gym for the season is Sunday, April 22.

Adult softball meetings set
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks will hold organizational meetings for its co-ed and men’s softball leagues on Wednesday, April 18.     The co-ed meeting will be at 7 p.m. and the men’s meeting at 7:45 p.m. at the community center. Teams interested in participating this summer should have a representative present at the meeting. Individuals interested in joining a team should contact the recreation office prior to the meetings, in order for names to be passed along to captains. Youth indoor soccer
The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks is offering a youth co-ed indoor soccer program which began on March 8. This is an informal drop-in program with no registration required.
The schedule is as follows: Thursdays 3:15-4:15 p.m. for third-and-fourth graders and 4:15-5:15 p.m. for fifth-and-sixth graders.
All youth must have shin-guards and sneakers to participate.

Youth open gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has open gym hours on Sundays and Saturdays throughout the winter from 1-5 p.m.     Grades 1-5 are welcome from 1-3 p.m., and junior high and high school students are welcome from 3-5 p.m. Available activities include gym games, board games, ping pong, foosball, and pool. There is no cost.

Middle school open gym
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department offers a middle school-only open gym time on Friday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m.    Students in grades 6-8 are invited to come and participate in open gym and other activities. Possible group activities, such as tubing and bowling, may be scheduled for future dates. This is open to SAD 1 students only.
