MCGREGOR, IOWA –  Hazel M. Bishop passed away peacefully in McGregor, Iowa on March 26, 2007. Due to ilness, she moved to Iowa in 1994 to live with her daughter, Linda Riemenschneider.
Hazel was born in Caribou, Maine, daughter of Waman and Jennie Kinney of Woodland Center. She was blessed with four sisters; Isabelle, Polly, Grace and Arlene and throughout their lives were best friends. She graduated from Caribou High School, attended Presque Isle Normal School (presently U. of M.) to pursue a career as a teacher. She married John B. Bishop, son of Archie and Alma Bishop of Presque Isle in 1940, all members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. When Hazel’s parents moved to New York State, she visited there each summer. The family reunions were endless and many wonderful memories were all documented in the journals she left as her legacy to Linda. She adored all of her nieces and nephews and tried to keep in touch. Hazel’s humor came shining through with all the “little expressions” she used in stories she would tell about growing up on the farm. Hazel pursued her dream as a teacher. She was asked to substitute teach for one year at the Maysville Grange on the Caribou Road where her daughter attended school. Her teaching took her on a path she hadn’t anticipated. In P.I. she taught the mentally challenged children for nine glorious years. She finished her working career as assistant librarian in P.I.
Preceding Hazel in death were her mother and father, husband, John and three sisters. Her daughter, Linda, grandchildren, Kelly and Bret, three great-grandchildren and sister, Grace Cyr survive her. Her sister, Polly, passed away the night before Hazel and both will be buried in Cohocton, NY. We choose to believe that Polly picked up Hazel on their way to Heaven.
