Children’s Miracle Network announced recently that the Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Bangor Market, which includes the Houlton and Presque Isle Wal-Mart stores, raised more money per store, on average, than any other region in the country. On Tuesday, May 1, the Presque Isle and Houlton stores celebrated northern, central and eastern Maine’s commitment to CMN. In commemoration of this significant achievement, Gov. John E. Baldacci declared May 1 CMN’s Good Works Day at all Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club locations. Associates and customers were honored at special celebrations at the Presque Isle and Houlton stores and at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club locations throughout the region. The Aroostook Medical Center benefits directly from funds raised in the local area through CMN. These funds give the community access to equipment and services that otherwise would not be available to pediatric patients.
The winning combination of dedicated associates and loyal customers at each of these stores helps local children get the medical treatments they need to live long and full lives. Ten years ago the stores in the region began a partnership with CMN’s that has raised $2 million to help our hospitals care for children. Most of this money was raised one dollar at a time through the sale of CMN’s Miracle balloons and at special events at each store. This accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible without the combined efforts of associates and customers who are passionate about CMN’s and local children.
