PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Dow. Rachel Dow. Calabrese. Brianne Calabrese.
With a James Bond 007 theme, Dow and Calabrese were crowned the 2007 Junior Miss Mapleton and Miss Mapleton, respectively, at the May 19 pageant held at the Presque Isle High School Auditorium.
The daughter of Tony and Lisa Dow, Rachel, who performed a jazz dance to the song “Jitterbug” for her talent, also received the Junior Miss congeniality award.
The daughter of Michael Calabrese and Rose Levasseur, Calabrese sang, “Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart” for her talent. In addition to winning the Miss Mapleton title, Calabrese also received photogenic, congeniality and interview awards.
Other girls who competed for the Junior Miss crown included:
• Emily Wright, daughter of Barry and Kim Wright. She played “Let it Be” on the piano for her talent. Wright was also crowned second runner-up and received the interview award.
• Michaela Powers, daughter of Joe and Sue Powers. She performed a hip-hop dance routine to “Pon de Replay” for her talent. Powers received the Junior Miss photogenic award.
• Sarah McEachern, daughter of Bruce and Pamela McEachern. She clogged to “Funkytown” during the talent portion of the pageant. McEachern won an award for high-ticket sales.
• Samantha Buck, daughter of Andy and Angela Buck. She played “Entrance of the Gladiator” on the piano for her talent.
• Kathryn Sharp, daughter of Dan and Linda Sharp. Sharp, who sang “Anyway” for her talent, was crowned first runner-up.
Other girls who competed for the Miss Mapleton crown included:
• Shauna Lee Johnston, daughter of Garth and Debbie Johnston. She performed a ballet routine en Pointe to “My Immortal” for her talent.
• Kasandra Lee Nelson, daughter of Sherry Bradley and Alan Cowett. Nelson, who performed a jazz dance to “Smooth Criminal” during the talent portion of the pageant, won an award for high-ticket sales.
Also entertaining at the Junior and Miss Mapleton pageant were 2006 Junior Miss Mapleton Whitney Rae LaPointe, 2006 Miss Mapleton Chelsea Rae Kaiser, and 2007 Little Miss Mapleton Lacy Marie Condon.
Pre-pageant entertainment was provided by Kelsey Gilson, who clogged to “Best of Both Worlds,” MoonDance Studios Hip Hop which danced to “Wait a Minute,” Kori Kinney, who sang “I Can Love You Better,” and the MoonDance Studios All Star Cloggers who danced to “Hey Tonight.”
Mistress of Ceremonies for the pageant was Jessica Boyd.
Proceeds from the pageant benefited the Mapleton Ladies Extension, which supports local community charities.
