Pony League results
Last Wednesday, Rod Brewer Design and the Wildcats squared off in a Pony League game at Pine Street. RBD prevailed, 5-3, behind the clutch pitching of Amos Dean, who had relief help from Derek Sczuroski and Wilder York. Zac Campbell was very strong on the mound for the Wildcats.
The RBD offense was led by Ben McKenna, who had a triple and 2 RBI. Cameron Tardie and Derek Sczuroski each had a single and an RBI, while Amos Dean added a single.
For the Wildcats, Matt Parsons and Matt Chasse each provided a double and an RBI, while Dillon Kingsbury smacked a double.
Steve Ford, Nic Bouchard, Cole Richards and Trey Stewart anchored the RBD defense. On the Wildcat side, Matt Chasse, Ryan Thibeau, Jon Fortin and Brock Cassidy made clutch defensive plays.
Major League results
Kiwanis won its first game of the year Friday, beating Rotary, 12-1. For Kiwanis, Jacob Williams pitched very well, racking up eight strikeouts. Tony Curtis came in to close out the last two innings.
Tyler Seeley had three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Williams had two hits, including a double and two RBI, while also scoring three runs. Corey Belanger also connected for two hits with an RBI, in addition to stealing three bases.
Khyver Lowe had Rotary’s only hit, a double to right center field which drove in Derek Mendoza. Griffin Lovely had nine strikeouts on the mound in his first start of the young season.
Minor League results
Opening day at the Presque Isle Parks and Recreation was a great one with two superb games. The first contest was held at the pool field featuring Katahdin Trust facing Key Bank
In the first inning, Brian Fournier of Katahdin Trust ripped a base hit to plate a pair of baserunners and give Katahdin Trust an early lead and the eventual 10-5 win. Fournier paced the attack with three hits, while Brycen Libby came up with two hits and Joel Tewksbury added another.
For Key Bank, Jordan Lyford and Keegan Lowe both had three hits. Defensively for Katahdin Trust, Joel Tewksbury made a fantastic catch and used his baseball smarts by tagging first base to complete a double play.
Jenna Hallett had the complete-game victory on the mound, while the opposing pitcher, Adam Patterson, also pitched a complete game while striking out 13 in the losing effort.
Game two, which was held at the Pine Street diamond, came down to the wire as both pitchers, Nick Ranieri of Knights of Columbus and Ben Buckley of First Citizens, pitched gems. Raineri struck out 15 and Buckley had 13 strikeouts, with Buckley’s team winning, 3-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jacob Carter and Oliver Gerrish both drew walks before Ben Buckley stepped to the plate and jacked a two-run triple and later Buckley would come in to score as First Citizens won, 3-0.
Austin Albert had a hit for the Knights.
Water safety course offered at indoor pool
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will offering the Basic Water Safety Course that the State of Maine is requiring for all day care providers who have pools less than four feet in depth (including wading pools).
The course will be held Monday, July 9 from 6-9:30 pm. The American Red Cross course provides individuals with the information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. The class will have skill practice, lecture and a written test.
