Pony League results
The two Presque Isle teams facing very tough opponents in the Pony League playoffs. Both teams played well but neither could muster a playoff win. The Wildcats lost to Mars Hill, 6-4, while RBD went down to Fort Fairfield, 12-4 in games played in Presque Isle last Wednesday.     The Wildcats faced Mars Hill in a hotly-contested contest held at the pool field. Dillon Kingsbury did a tremendous job on the mound, piling up 11 strikeouts in the complete-game loss. Brock Cassidy, Ryan Bernier, Ryan Thibeau and Zac Campbell made solid defensive plays for the Wildcats to keep the game close.
On the offensive side, Ryan Bernier had a single and two RBI. Cassidy, Campbell and Matt Chasse each slapped a single. Matt Parsons and Isaac Lajoie each contributed one RBI.
RBD and Fort Fairfield squared off at the Pine Street field. Fort Fairfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before RBD rallied with three runs in the third inning. However, the Fort Fairfield bats stayed hot and they cruised to the victory.
Derek Sczuroski was the losing pitcher, with Ethan Braley, Amos Dean and Wilder York providing relief help. Steven Ford did another fine job behind the plate in very humid weather conditions. Braley, York, Connor Shaw, Dean and Riley Norton all made nice plays in the infield. Cole Richards and Ethan York made some quality catches in the outfield.
Trey Stewart continued his clutch hitting by singling home two runs. Sczuroski also singled to knock in one run. Ford smacked two doubles while Ethan York, Dean and Cameron Tardie all singled.
Major League results
In Major League action last Wednesday, Kiwanis defeated Rotary, 6-3. Jacob Williams picked up the pitching victory, allowing only four hits and striking out eight. At the plate, Cody Lyford knocked in two runs with a double, while Williams, Corey Belanger, Tony Curtis and Karson Wilcox all had singles.
For Rotary, Cody Flannery led the way with a double and a single and three RBI. Josh Gordon and Griffen Lovely also had hits in the game. Defensively, Kiwanis got great plays from Corey Belanger, Williams, Tyler Seeley and Tony Curtis. Connor Savage, Khyver Lowe and Josh Gordon made fine plays in the field for Rotary.
Major League All-Stars
Last Tuesday July 24, the Presque Isle All-Stars participated in a round-robin exhibition in Fort Fairfield. They were able to pick up two more wins as they defeated Madawaska, 6-4 in the first game and beat Fort Fairfield, 12-0 in the second contest.
Tony Curtis pitched very well in the complete game victory against Madawaska. He recorded outs in clutch situations to keep the game under control. Corey Belanger did a nice job catching a very close game. Jacob Williams, Jonah Stephenson, and Jacob Player made many good defensive plays in the infield.
The all-star hitting was led by Jeremy Parlin with two singles and one RBI. Jonah Stephenson and Jacob Player both tripled and Jacob Williams doubled. Griffin Lovely and Josh Gordon each singled home one run.
The second game saw Presque Isle score five runs without recording an out in the first inning. They duplicated their effort in the second inning to put the game out of reach. Lovely was dominant on the mound as he allowed only two hits in the game. Tyler Seeley made two outstanding plays on ground balls to first base to anchor the infield defense. Stephenson and Gordon split time behind the plate and both made several nice stops.
Stephenson continued his hot hitting by collecting three singles. Williams tripled and singled while Player and Seeley each had a double and a single. Curtis rapped two singles and Michael Guerrette had a bases-loaded double to plate three runs. Parlin, Gordon, and Karson Wilcox had one single a piece to round out the offense.
New web site
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has a new website up and running. The address is www.pirec.org. Program information, special events, schedules and cancellations will be posted and updated as needed.
Changes and cancellations will also be posted on the hotline. The number is 764-2510.
Junior girls softball results
The Mudcats defeated the Sidewinders last Wednesday. All the girls played great defense. Brianna Howlett pitched and Jess Raineri came on in relief. Bridgette Carrier had a base hit, while Brianna Howlett had two.
On Friday, the Rockhounds pulled out the 8-7 win over the Mudcats. Bridgette Carrier and Cameo Madore pitched well to keep the game close. Jess Raineri, Bridgette Carrier and Tori Drost all had singles. Both teams did a great job and it was a very interesting game.
Youth soccer
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is currently holding registration for grades 1-6 soccer. Games will take place after school at either the pool field or at Riverside Park. The registration fee is $15, and the deadline for registration is Aug. 14. For more information, call the recreation office at 764-2545.
