PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Lauren Pelkey and Katelyn Rattray, both 2005 Presque Isle High School graduates, were recently awarded the Joseph N. Talbot Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship. Pelkey and Rattray are third-year pharmacy students at the University of Rhode Island.     At URI, Pelkey and Rattray are members of Lambda Kappa Sigma, an international professional pharmacy fraternity, and Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society. Pelkey’s interests lie in clinical pharmacy. She hopes to specialize in pharmacy oncology. Rattray plans to return to Aroostook County to work in either a clinical or retail setting. The Joseph N. Talbot Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship was established by the family of Joe Talbot, a longtime resident of Presque Isle and a successful pharmacist for over 40 years. Talbot passed away in the fall of 2005.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Presque Isle High School or Ashland Community High School graduate who is enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program. Pelkey is the daughter of Douglas and Joann Pelkey, and Rattray is the daughter of Randy and Cindy Rattray, all of Presque Isle.
