CA, ’Cat golf teams unbeaten

The Central Aroostook Panthers and the Presque Isle Wildcats got their golf seasons under way with excellent results.

    CA has a 4-0 record heading into a match in Limestone this afternoon. The Panthers defeated Hodgdon last Wednesday, 237-354, in a match played at Mars Hill Country Club. Kane Kingsbury had CA’s low round with a 42 and was also the medalist for accumulating the top overall score. Lee Gagnon posted a 46 and Greg Cousins and Shawn McIntyre identical 48s for the winners.
Paul Griffin’s 59 was the Hawks’ best score.
On Aug. 24, the Panthers took on Limestone/MSSM and Katahdin in a rain-soaked match, also played at MHCC.  CA had a score of 262, while Katahdin came in at 288 and Limestone/MSSM at 317.
Gagnon was the lone player to break 50 on the day, notching a 49 for his round to take medalist honors. Will DeLong had a 52, while Cousins and McIntyre again tied with 53s.
Josh Guiggey fired a 50 to pace Katahdin, while Tom Albert’s 53 led Limestone/MSSM.
The Panthers’ first win of the season came against Fort Fairfield. Kingsbury had a 47 and Gagnon a 48 to lead CA.
The Presque Isle Wildcats are 3-0 after beating defending Class C state champion Houlton by three strokes Friday. PI had a score of 173, with Matt Talbot the medalist with a 41. Nic Gallant carded a 42,  while Steve Ford (43), Nick Shaw (47) and Tyler St. Pierre (48) were the other top scorers for the Wildcats.
PI also won at Old Town last Tuesday, 164-186. Matt Talbot’s round of 40 was the low round of the afternoon for the ’Cats. St. Pierre and Jon Humphrey posted 41s.
The Wildcats golfed at Orono yesterday and will host Caribou next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
