Park fourth at Ellsworth XC meet
Corey Park of Presque Isle took fourth place at the Ellsworth Invitational Cross Country Meet, held Saturday.
Park had a time of 15:17, with Ethan Shaw of Falmouth claiming the top spot in 14:20. Jason Johnson placed 20th for the Wildcats in 16:28. PI’s score of 107 was good enough for fourth place overall in the nine-team field. Caribou was the meet winner The Presque Isle girls placed sixth out of 10 teams with 160 points. Krista Buck led the team by placing 24th in 19:56. Teammates Erin Thomas and Jerica Fox also were among the top 30.
Athletes of the week
Presque Isle High School student Jason Johnson was named Varsity Club/Big Cheese Pizza athletes of the week for Aug. 20-25.
Johnson, a cross country runner, has been cited by the coaching staff as “motivated, positive and his work ethic has been superb.”
Bowling league organizational meetings
Northern Lanes will hold organizational meetings for its bowling leagues this week:
Men’s Monday and Wednesday Leagues, tonight, 6:30 p.m.; Men’s Thursday Night League, Thursday, 6:30 p.m.; Sunday Night Mixed Doubles, Sunday, 5 p.m.
The junior league will get under way Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.

Graves wins Bangor Labor Day 5-Miler
Evan Graves of Presque Isle captured the 45th annual Bangor Labor Day 5-Mile Road Race, held Monday, going wire to wire for a time of 25:45. He was 1:42 faster than runner-up Erik McCarthy of Orono, who came in at 27:27.
Archery Safety Course offered
An Archery Safety Course will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and finishing on Sunday at the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club.

The Bridge Club is now meeting at the William V. Haskell Community Center in Presque Isle Tuesdays from noon-4 p.m.
Football league under way Saturday
Aroostook Football begins play for its fifth year soon with a round-robin jamboree to be held at the Sincock Field in Caribou.
People in the area have a chance to preview the coming year on Saturday when the three teams representing the Houlton area, Caribou-Presque Isle area and St. John Valley area, as well as teams from Howland and Milo, meet for an event beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Bridgewater wins softball playoff title
The Bridgewater Softball League recently came to a close, with Team Bridgewater capturing the title after finishing in last place during the regular season.
Team Faulkner placed second, while King 1 and King 2 were the other competing teams.
Members of the winning team were Greg Allen, Nathan Hardy, Erick Goff, R.J. Richardson, Adam Crew, Tyler Rusby, Jann Votaw, Beau Bradstreet, Mike Matheson, Shawn Matheson, Adam Matheson, Butch Richardson, Marie Hanson, Maria Richardson, Blake McCarthy and Logan McCarthy.
Basketball officiating school offered at PIHS
IAABO (International Association of Approved Basketball Officials) Board 150, which serves Aroostook County, will offer an officiating school for new officials beginning Oct. 1 at Presque Isle High School from 7-9 p.m.
