Lady ‘Cat JV ties in finishing match

    The Presque Isle junior varsity girls soccer wrapped up their 2007 season with a 0-0 draw against Caribou on October 10. Despite dominating possession for most of the game, the Lady Wildcats could not find a way past Caribou keeper Melissa Nadeau.Presque Isle keeper Rilee Currie made an initial stop on a hard shot, diving to her right, and quickly pounced on the rebound to preserve the  tie. Currie posted four saves on six shots during the contest. The ‘Cats best  chance came midway through the first half. Jenna Stephenson made an effort to dribble through three Caribou defenders, and crossed the ball in front of an open net.
    “We played some of our best soccer of the season during the second half of the game. Our passing and ball control were excellent in all parts of the field,” said first year coach Todd Player.
    The Wildcats other recent contests included wins at home against Old Town and Central. On Saturday, Oct. 6 the ‘Cats hosted Old Town, and posted a 2-0 victory. The first half goal came from Shae Adler, and the second half point from Casey Carson. On Saturday, Sept. 29 the Wildcats notched a 6-0 victory over Central of East Corinth in Presque Isle. Scoring in the victory for the Lady ‘Cats were: Jenna Stephenson, Lindsay Michaud, Mackenzie Pinette, Chelsea Lynds, Shae Adler and Deidre Dicker.
 Presque Isle fell 1-0 to John Bapst in double overtime. Playing their third road game in just over a week, the ‘Cats also found themselves on the short end in Ellsworth on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Ellsworth scored the game’s only goal with 15:40 remaining in the second half. Though the ‘Cats pressed for an equalizer during the last 5 minutes, Ellsworth was able to turn away a number of Wildcat scoring chances and notched the 1-0 win.
    During their regular season, the Lady Wildcats racked up 59 goals in 16 games, while allowing only 4. They finish 13-2-1. Reflecting on the season, coach Player added, “The girls really played well as a team. They learned a lot, had a lot of fun, and played some great soccer.”
