Avis Haines

    Caribou and Mapleton-Avis Haines, 87, wife of the late Arnold Haines, died October 19, 2007 at Mars Hill. She was born in Caribou March 29, 1920 the daughter of Samuel and Dora (Cochran) Wilcox. She was a 1940 graduate of Zion Bible Institute. Avis was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family.Image She will be fondly remembered by many for all of  the handcrafted items she made and created over the years. 
    She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Harriet and Mark Murchison of Woodland, three sons and two daughters-in-law Philip Haines of Smyrna Mills, Paul and Kim Haines of Ashland and Samuel and Karina Haines of Cameron, N.C. One sister Madeline Shillington of Caribou. Eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haines was predeceased by her husband in 1983 and a daughter, Norma.
    Funeral services were held at 12 noon from the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou with Rev. Sterling Lawrence officiating. Interment took place at the Smyrna Mills Cemetery.
