County soccer tournament
The Madawaska co-ed soccer team topped Ashland by a score of 6-3 to win the 2007 County Soccer Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13. Madawaska defeated St. Agatha in the semi-finals and Easton in the quarter-finals. Ashland jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Washburn, holding on to win 3-1 in semi-final action.
They also rallied from a 2-1 deficit to Presque Isle for the 3-2 victory, scoring two goals in the last five minutes. In other action, it was Presque Isle over Woodland 6-0 in a preliminary game, Washburn picked up the 1-0 win over Van Buren in a quarter-final matchup. St. Agatha shut out Mars Hill 1-0 in the other quarter-final game. The team from Presque Isle won the skills competition and Washburn finished second. Skills tested included heading, shooting, passing, dribbling and chipping.
Special thanks to Coach Scott Young, Coach Tim McCue and members of the Presque Isle High School varsity boys soccer team for volunteering their time to make the skills competition possible. A big thanks also goes out to the PIHS Athletic Boosters Club for providing concessions for the event.
