TOPS 145
By Shirley Sides
The weekly meeting of TOPS 145 was held Oct 24 at the Congregational Church vestry in Island Falls.
We had 14 members weigh-in and 13 attended our meeting. Our person who lost the most weight for the week was Mary Shaw, and runners-up were Annie Jane Smith and Loretta Bouchard. Great job, ladies.
Reports were given by our secretary and treasurer for the week.
Our leader Jackie Pratt led the program for the week. We had a long and interesting discussions on how we should be losing weight and what contest we could have that would help us.
Please feel welcome to our humble group of women: weigh-ins are every Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more information.
TOPS ME 233, Houlton
By Lois Downing
Take Off Pounds Sensibly, Chapter 233, of Houlton, met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Oct. 26 meeting.
Thirteen TOPS ladies and five KOPS were weighed.
Joyce Estey was the official greeter; Leader Kay Grass was in charge of the meeting.
Secretary’s report was given by Charlotte Marley and Joanne Scott gave the weight recorder’s report.
Loser of the week was Denise Kinney with Melva Folsom as runner-up. It was a good weight loss for the group.
The 50/50 collection was won by Gerry McAfee; mystery by Joanne Scott and Charlotte won the skinny dish, held over last week.
Cheryl Driscoll will look into the possibility of buying a camera for our chapter and will report on it later.
Denise Kinney, in charge of contests, reported that the Halloween winner will be announced at the next meeting. The “Lifeboat” contest is still pending and going well.
Kay read a newsletter from Janice Cote, representative for our chapter. Chapter 331 of Washburn will host the Nov. 3 workshop; it will be a fund raiser for the group.
Our chapter will schedule a Christmas party for the first Friday in December, the place will be announced.
For the program, Kay read some reasons “Why I’m tired all the time,” taken from the Woman’s World magazine. The story suggested that you do what you need to do in the morning, rather than afternoon. Take timeouts, even 10 minutes will give one a breather; keep a joke book on hand — a good laugh is healthy.
Charlotte led the ladies in the “Tooty ta ta” dance. Then the program ended for the week.
To join, come for a weigh-in at 8-8:45 a.m. Meetings begin at 9 a.m. and usually end an hour later.
For information on the chapter, you may call Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or Betty Ivey at 532-9653.
Everybody is welcome.
Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Rumblings again.
How about those Red Sox? Being a Red Sox fan, I’ve been up later than usual because of watching the games on television. Wow, that’s taken a toll on me, as well as other people, but isn’t it fun!
Priscilla Brownlow is a Red Sox fan, by the looks of her shirt — a Red Sox one, of course!
This time next week we will change time, so get ready to get an extra hour of sleep.
Saw Althea Lloyd’s collection of elephants and teddy bears! Wow, what a collection and a great display to boot.
Gini Barrett is our Southern area RSVP coordinator. She wrote in her latest correspondence, “Thank you, it stirs my heart to think of all the wonderful things you do for your community members.” There’s more but this gives a little insight of her thankfulness.
Inez Scott had an overnight recently in Woodstock, N.B. where she visited her grandchildren.
I’ll be off to Boston this week to attend the funeral of my oldest living brother, Edward Phelan, 88. He died in a Minnesota hospice after a few days of hospitalization. He went to this state to live with his son, after the death of his wife in August, after 65 years of marriage. May he rest in peace.
It’s time for our November menu. If you wish to order from Meals on Wheels, just call Irene in the community room. She’s manager and the number is 532-6435 between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Fridays, except holidays.
Halloween is almost here. Are you ready for the “trick or treaters?” Halloween is second in line for the selling of candy, so they say.
My thought for the day is a quote from the Rev. Robert Schuller, well-known evangelist, “Tough times never last; tough people do.”
Have a nice week.
