As the Haystack Historical Society closes for the season, we wish to thank everyone who has made our year such a success. We especially thank all the people who donated money and items to our Fall Auction & Supper and everyone who came to support our major fund-raiser of the year. We also want to give a public thank you to Dana Alison, who donated a new computer and all the accessories to our Society this year. It is our first computer and we expect to be able to better manage our artifacts with it. On Nov. 16, we will be holding our end-of-the-year potluck supper and meeting. All members and guests are urged to attend.

Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society held it yearly board of directors meeting Oct. 23. All board members and officers will remain the same for 2008. Discussion by the board included fund-raisers for 2008 and their main goal being the raising of money for projects and to keep the hall functioning.
They have 12 cookbooks left to sell. These will be retired once these 12 are gone. Call any member if you would like to purchase one.
On Nov. 17, they will have a short meeting followed by a Christmas party with a potluck supper and Yankee swap. All members and invited guests are asked to attend for an evening of fun.
They also held a concert/karaoke Oct. 14 with Fireman Fred. A light lunch, dessert, and drinks were sold, 50/50 raffle was held, and many door prizes were given away. Everyone who attended, either singing or listening, deemed the day a success and a fun afternoon with friends and neighbors. The Society believes this was a great fund-raiser and may have another one in the future. They would like to thank Fred Parsons for his generosity and talent. It was great fun!
They would like you to please give them an hour of your time once a month to help keep the building operating. The fund-raisers they have are just paying their expenses and leave them with little else to do their projects. If you have enjoyed voting, going to town meetings, their suppers, having a reasonable hall to rent right in your own town, and other events, please consider helping to keep their organization going for future years. Dues are $10 per year for working members, $15 for non-working members or $100 for a lifetime membership. Their meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month from February through November. Please see any member for details.
They are requesting that anyone who has knowledge of a veteran who served in the military between 1903 to the present to write or call Natalie Maynard, 2877 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757 or 764-4878. They need names, dates, and any information you can give them so they can place the names on a sign or in a book in the future. The person must have been a resident of Castle Hill at the time of service.

Mapleton Chapman Castle Hill Senior Citizens
The regular meeting of the Mapleton Chapman Castle Hill Senior Citizens was Oct. 22 with 19 members present. Anita Morin asked the blessing on the meal. Following the meal, President Marie called the meeting to order. The flag salute and Lord’s Prayer were repeated. A get-well card was signed for Irving Condon. Shirley and Grenda volunteered for the November kitchen committee. Arlene shared her two blue ribbons she won at the pie-baking contest for the Baptist Conference in China Lake. She won best in her category, as well as best overall. We congratulate her for that honor. Marie welcomed back Vi Frazier, Anita Cote and Lorna Plourde after a long absence. Vi thanked the club for all the cards sent to her during her illness. On Monday, Oct. 29, the Mapleton Chapman Castle Hill Senior Citizens met at the Pizza House with 29 members and guests present. Tick sold tickets for a can of homemade fudge. Arlene won it and said she will send it to her granddaughter, Jess, who is serving in Iraq. Arlene is definitely a winner!
The Mapleton Chapman Castle Hill Senior Citizens meets every Monday – except the fifth Monday – at Mapletree Estates.
