Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning at the Aroostook Health Center. A directors’ meeting was held recently and it was decided to increase the cost of the birthday calendars to $6. They are on track to be distributed by the end of December.
Special speaker was Rotarian Roger Shaw, superintendent of SAD 42. He spoke about the recent meeting in Presque Isle about the school consolidation, where there seemed to be more questions than answers.
He has spoken to many people throughout the state about the consolidation and not one of them has seen anything good coming from the plans. There seems sometimes as if there is a hidden agenda that is driving the initiatives.
There is a petition circulating about the consolidation plans. There will be a petition for each town, and individuals desiring to sign it must be sure the paper they sign is from the town they reside in. They should also make sure that they sign the petition only once. Hope is that more than 100,000 signatures can be gathered to present to the Legislature by the time they convene in January.

Bridgewater Historical Association
“With the cold weather heading our way, there’s something the BHA wants to say. We thank you all for what you’ve done, to make this year a successful one,” written by Jann Bonkowski Votaw.
The BHA would like to thank all who attended their Harvest Supper. There was a good crowd and everyone had a good time. No one left hungry, as there was an ample amount of delicious food to eat. After the meal, there was plenty of music thanks to volunteer musicians Pam Green of Centerville, Carol Trafford of Florenceville, Annette Green of Hartland, Jim “Sheldon” Wright of Presque Isle, Leland Clark of Mars Hill, Jann Votaw of Bridgewater, Wayne Scott of Calais and Denis Gagne of Bridgewater. At the event, the BHA had door prizes, raffles and a costume contest. They hope to repeat the event next year.
Besides all of the individual donors, the BHA would like to thank Bradstreet Family Farm, Wood Prairie Farm and Bradbury Barrel, all of Bridgewater, for their donations. The BHA sincerely appreciates all of those who continue to support them. They hope you continue to do so. Any and all physical and monetary donations are graciously accepted.
Unfortunately, due to the cold weather, the Thursday night music program has come to a close for the winter. Thanks also to all who came to enjoy the music. We look forward to returning in th spring.
Even though it appears we shut down for the winter, the members of the BHA are still actively working on projects and making plans for next year. Anyone who would like to make donations to the general fund or to the special fund to raise money for a new sound system for the hall can contact Denis Gagne at 429-8290, Jann Votaw at 425-7901. Donations can also be sent to: Bridgewater Historical Association, P. O. Box 341, Bridgewater, ME 04735. Information on the BHA can also be found at www.bridgewatermaine.org.
Ladies’ Stitch and *itch Group
The Bridgewater Recreation Department has formed a Ladies’ Stitch & *itch Group. The group meets every other Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridgewater Civic Building. Ladies of all ages are invited to attend. There is no charge to attend. The group will meet on Nov. 13 and 27, and Dec. 4 and 18.
This is an opportunity to bring whatever you are working on: cross-stitch, embroidery, scrapbooking, sewing, etc., and share good conversation while working on your favorite project. If you do not have anything to bring, that’s OK too, as others will be willing share and teach.
All are welcome – you don’t have to be a Bridgewater resident to participate, so bring your friends, too! For more information, contact Chris Finemore at 425-6606.
