Santa Paws is coming to the Central Aroostook Humane Society Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m., so mark your calendar. This is a wonderful fund-raiser and all proceeds go to help the animals at our little shelter. There will be refreshments and you can visit with our animals. Any donations are greatly appreciated and will be placed under our Christmas tree. It costs nothing, just your time, and it is pretty fun to meet new people, fill out product reviews and know that your time is doing something good to help the shelter.
The holidays are almost here and we always think about cooking “people food,” but what about pet treats. Here are some fun recipes:
2 C whole-wheat flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. shortening
1 C warm water
3/4 C graded Parmesan cheese
Heat oven to 450 degrees. In a bowl, mix all ingredients except cheese. Flour countertop and roll out dough to 1/4 – inch thickness. Use cookie cutters or pizza slicer to make 1-inch square treats. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Place 1-inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake 5-8 minutes or until browned. Cool and store in airtight container. Makes 3 dozen.
2 cups plain or vanilla yogurt
1 banana broken into pieces
2 Tbs. peanut butter
1 Tbs. honey
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl with a hand mixer. Divide among mini ice cube trays. Freeze. Makes 2 dozen pops.

4 strawberries
3 ice cubes
Peel the banana and use a butter knife to cut it into 5 small slices. Cut the hulls from the strawberries. Add the fruit and ice to the blender and liquefy. Serve 2 tablespoons at a time to bird. Be sure to remove and clean bowl after 2 hours.
