HOULTON — Bonnie Tidd’s Art room at Houlton High School was aflame Oct. 31 for the annual carved pumpkin show. Seventy-three intricately carved pumpkins featuring western themes such as cowboys, horses and a bull rider; animals that included lions, tiger and bears plus dragons, wolves, deer, a zebra, dolphins, penguins,  pandas, and monkeys; not to mentions cartoon and Disney charters such as Taz, Eyor, Piglet, Tigger, Spongebob, Yoda, Simba, and Pooh bear; and other scenes such as the sun, moon and stars, castles with the moon and clouds reflecting on the walls from behind the pumpkins, the Eiffel tower and even a Picasso design.

A special attraction was the three-tier skeleton consisting of three pumpkins atop one another. Students paraded through the darkened classroom all day enjoying the flickering flames of the 73 pumpkins and the awesome display in the art room.
Tidd and her students would like to thank all those who helped make this years show such a success. Virgil Farrar of Hodgdon donated 22 pumpkins for the students to use, and Brittany Benn also donated pumpkins. A few non-art students and teachers assisted in the cleaning process that helped the pumpkins to be completed on time for the show. The chemistry club donated candles. The janitors allowed the students to use one of their storage buildings to keep the pumpkins cold and preserved in during the process of cleaning, putting on the patterns and carving not to mention their help in the clean up.
Without all of those who helped, the class would not be able to do put on their show, said Tidd.
