Hersey, Timothy S., 52, October 16, 2007. A memorial service will be held in Smyrna Mills in June. GAN YAVNE, Israel, and BRADFORD – Timothy Steven Hersey, 52, was unexpectedly called home to be with the Lord Oct. 16, 2007, due to heart failure, at his residence in Gan Yavne, Israel. He was born March 23, 1955, in Houlton, the fourth of five siblings to Ernest and Jennie (Stevens) Hersey.
Tim graduated from Southern Aroostook Community High School and East Coast Aero Technical School in Massachusetts. He worked 25 years in the field of aviation before retiring from a management position at Bangor International Airport. Tim was a quiet, humble man, but his life spoke volumes by what he did for others. His last act of kindness was to help a lady change a flat tire a few hours before his homegoing.
As Longfellow said, "…lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime and parting, leave behind us footprints on the sands of time." He will be greatly missed by all who loved him and knew him as Tim or "Moti."
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Katherine (Shorette) Hersey of Gan Yavne, Israel; three daughters, Kimberly, Hollie and Carrie, all of Gan Yavne, Israel; three sisters, Prudence Pedraza of Columbia, South America, Leah Pier of Whiteville, N.C., and Carolyn Griffith of Eddington; and a large, loving family, including several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; a stepfather, Otis Delong; and a brother, Ira Hersey.
A funeral and burial took place in Israel. A memorial service to be held in Smyrna Mills in June will be announced at a later date.
