Well, let me just say Santa was a huge hit at the Central Aroostook Humane Society. So many dogs, cats and children were able to sit on Santa’s lap and give him their wish list. Our winter wonderland back-drop was awesome again this year, making for wonderful holiday pictures. Our staff just has the ability to turn our conference room into something magical. It was such a huge success that Santa said he will be back from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 8. So if you missed pictures last weekend, please join us this weekend for Pictures with Santa Paws. There will be good tidings and refreshments, so bring the kids and the critters for an encore visit from Santa. All proceeds go to the animals at the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
It is so wonderful to see the support from the community during these annual fund-raisers. We love to see animals that were adopted from the shelter come back for a visit and to meet new friends. I always find it interesting to see the different breeds of dogs who arrive. I was a crazy woman this year and brought five dogs and two kids. They were all wonderful and the pictures were awesome. If you haven’t picked up your pictures yet, they are ready and available at the shelter. We are open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These make great Christmas cards!
I asked my puppies to make up their Christmas list; here is what I got:
• Baxter: I would like more to eat, lots of treats and a new bed.
• Rusty: I would like Daddy to give me his place in his bed, more rides in the car and another cat to play with (chew on).
• Tommy: I would like a thigh master (getting a little round) and also for Rusty to go live somewhere else – I don’t like him!!!
• Tucker: More toys, I never have enough. I want a Boxer of my own so I won’t have to play with the neighbor’s all of the time, and to sleep on Mommy’s big bed.
• Zoe: I would like all other dogs to leave my house, if that is not possible, I would like a crown so that there is no question who is the queen of this house! I want Mommy all to myself and to go with her everywhere! Did I mention I want all other dogs out of my house?
What are your pets’ holiday wishes? I know that the wonderful cats and dogs at the Central Aroostook Humane Society would want a home and family of their own. Pets do not make good gifts to unsuspecting recipients. Don’t let a good intentioned gift of a pet end badly. If a new owner does not want it, then the pet will most likely be returned to the shelter. That isn’t fair to the recipient or the pet.
We are in need of many items at the shelter. Here is our wish list:
• Old towels;
• Paper towels;
• Laundry detergent;
• Bleach;
• Fabuloso purple cleaning agent;
• Odo-ban (Sam’s Club sells it by the gallon!!);
• Special Kitty canned cat food – tuna banquet;
• Old stuffed toys;
• Help with fuel bill – call DOC;
• Wal-Mart gift certificates; or
• Get creative!!
Don’t forget to keep your pets safe from Christmas decorations. Keep tinsel off the tree if you have cats, they can ingest and it can cause blockages. Beware of lights, and remember that holly and poinsettias are poisonous!
From all of us at the Central Aroostook Humane Society, Have a very Merry Christmas!
If you are looking for a friend for life, please visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We have many wonderful pets available for adoption!!
Please have your pets spayed or neutered!
