The Caribou Choral Society under the direction of Dan Ladner, held a Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Caribou Performing Arts Center, helping area residents to get into the holiday spirit. The concert entitled “Christmastime Around the World,” included a number of Christmas carols from all over the globe.

The Caribou Choral Society presented “Christmastime Around the World,” on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Caribou Performing Arts Center, with a selection of Christmas carols from all over the world. Shown here are soloists in an Italian carol, “Gesu Bambino” Emily McConnell, and Peter Penny.
The program also featured a number of instrumental solos, including: Sue Herold on violin, performing a self-written accompaniment and Mari-Jo Hedman on flute. Hedman also provided accompaniment on piano throughout the performance.
Performing vocal solos during the concert were: Emily McConnell, Peter Penny, Christopher Labbe, Kenny Chamberlain, Sue Beaudet, Craig Cormier and Jayne Shaw.
The choral society performed over 20 carols from Africa, North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
Carols included: “Child of the Universe,” by Bill Cutler; “African Noel,” by Ronald Kauffmann; “Sheep and Lambs May Safely Graze,” by Johann Sebastian Bach, arranged by J.J. Baird; “Goin’ to Bethlehem,” by Jay Althouse; “Borgoroditse De” (Ave Maria), by Sergei Rachmaninoff, edited by Ken Fleet; “Pat-a-Pam,” words and arrangement by Harry Simeone; “Gesu Bambino,” by Frederick Martens and Pietro A. Yon; “Tambourine Noel,” by Gordon Young; “Carol from an Irish Cabin,” by Dale Wood; “March of the Kings,” with text and arrangement by Roy Ringwald and “Calypso Noel,” by Gordon Krunnfusz.
Following intermission the show continued with: “The Whole World Believes in Christmas,” by Carl Strommen; “Julpolska,” a traditional Swedish folk song with the help of Dan Olson, Swedish language coach; “A La Nanita Nana,” arranged by Roger Folstrom; “The Night Before Christmas Song,” with adaptation and music by Johnny Marks; “Japanese Christmas Carol,” a traditional Japanese song arranged by T. Charles Lee; “Brazillian Christmas Carol,” by Benjamin Harlan; “He is Born,” a traditional French carol arranged by Robert Wetzler; “Silent Night,” by Joseph Mohr and Franz Gruber, arranged by Harry Simeone; “Masters in this Hall,” a traditional English song arranged by Harry Simeone; “Twas in the Moon of Wintertime,” a song of the Huron Native American tribe edited and arranged by Walter Ehret and “An American Christmas Portrait,” a medley adapted and arranged by Roger Emerson including the carols, “I Wonder as I Wander,” “Children Go Where I Send Thee,” “Rise Up Shepherd and Follow,” and “Amen.”
Performing members of the Caribou Choral Society included sopranos: Joyce Akerson, Sue Beaudet, Gay Bernier, Gail Brogden, Christy Dingee, Holly Hancock, Sue Herold, Judy Holmquist, Mary Hyslop, Linda Jones, Lynne Josselyn, Marion M. Keenan, Lehrle Kieffer, Emily McConnell, Barbara Merryman, Ethel Moody, Kate O’Boyle, Bernadette Opthof, Bobbi Pelletier, Sandi Pickens, Jayne Shaw, Ann Sinclair, Donna Small, Nadine Strelka, Carolyn Wadman, Mary Warren, Alberta Wecker and Panda Whitmore.
Altos included: Melissa Arrington, Linda Baird, Nancy Carbone, Eva M. Cyr, Marjie Edgecomb, Juanita Goetz, Jeannine Haley, Jenna Hartung, Dianne Hersey, Margaret Jones, Gail Langley, Diane Mailhiot, Vicki McCurry, Peggy O’Kane, Edythe Penny and Carol St. Pierre-Engels.
