To the editor:
After eating a nice, big meal for Thanksgiving, my best friend Frosty and I received a phone call from the Caribou Chamber of Commerce. They wanted to invite us to attend their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. As we hopped into our sleigh, we were tickled with giggles and rode from the North Pole to Caribou in a flash. Strolling along through the town and enjoying the winter’s night we came upon the public library. We peeked through the window and saw they were having a puppet show performance of “The Night before Christmas. “ That’s our favorite story!
We then moseyed on over to the United Baptist Church. The carolers filled the air with sweet Christmas lullabies that could be heard from afar. We were offered a warm cup of delicious hot chocolate. Frosty could only have one cup because he was starting to melt!
Then Frosty and I skipped over to Family Chiropractic to see Santa light the huge Christmas tree. As we awaited his arrival, many rosy-cheeked children came up to us and gave us big, wonderful hugs.
We were honored that so many families wanted to take pictures with Frosty and me. It warmed our hearts.
All of a sudden, we saw a big fire truck with flashing red lights coming — it was Santa Claus! I got so excited that I almost lost my gumdrop buttons and Frosty’s eyes sparkled with glee.
We followed Santa to the gigantic tree and all gathered ‘round to hear what he had to say. Santa said we had to help him light the tree. The only way it would work was if we just believed. Following Santa’s lead, we all cheered, “1 … 2 … 3, Merry Christmas!” and the tree lit up! It was full of white glistening lights, sparkling snow and ornaments of all sizes. It reminded me of the ones at the North Pole. Then all the kids hurried over to the Fire Department to get the chance to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas.
It was such a great way to welcome the Christmas season. The night was so full of excitement and happy children. We can’t wait to come back to Caribou again next year! Golly it was lots of fun!
