The Town of Caswell voted last week to refinance a loan used to re-roof the local elementary school during a special town meeting earlier this month. According to Paula Peers, town clerk, the town had borrowed a total of $178,000 ten years ago for the roofing project. This year the final, or balloon payment, of $77,561 was due. However, Peers said the town couldn’t afford to write a check for that amount.
The new loan is for ten years at an interest rate of 5 percent, according to the warrant for the special meeting.
A total of seven people attended the session, which lasted about five minutes, Peers said.
