To the editor:
I was getting $65 and they cut $10 from that amount because I received a cost of living raise. But they did one thing wrong — and they seem to repeat it — they forgot to look at the economy and skyrocketing price of food and oil. I say this now because when I called the USDA they decided to play phone tag and give me a phone tour of Washington, D.C. bureaucracy.
Sometimes I think that the central government forgets who pay their salaries, they are Republicans and to them a complaint is nothing, especially if it’s from John Q citizen and not a member of the party.
Food stamp criteria is set at the USDA and outdated. They don’t look at the big picture and what those on fixed incomes face in the Bush economy. I did call the USDA to tell them they’re not seeing the major picture and the true needs of those in the poverty line and those tumbling into the abyss of poverty. The price of oil has gone to $97 per barrel, and fuel has gone up especially in rural America and the inner city of metropolitan America.
I call on Secretary Connor to open his eyes and stop following the Bush mandate for America which — to be blunt — stinks.
