HOULTON, Maine — On Jan. 5, fans of the Houlton versus Calais girls basketball game were treated to an exciting performance by the HHS Alumni band. Many fans were pleased with the great sound that was generated from the alumni band of close to 40 musicians, who only met for one hour to rehearse their music. The oldest graduate was David Flemington from the class of 1951. Doug Anderson, class of 2002, was the alum who traveled the furthest as he was in Houlton on vacation from his teaching job in Nara, Japan. The Alumni band had a variety of classes represented, with the greatest response from the class of 2007 represented by 10 members. There were also four members of the Hutchinson family; Jan, Jill and daughters Franny and Lizz performing.
David McGillicuddy and Joe Fagnant conducted the alumni band. The band was treated to lunch by the SAD 29 Music Boosters under the working of Janice and Katie Good. Both McGillicuddy and Fagnant said they are looking forward to next year’s Alumni Band game and hope that more alumni come out to play in January 2009.
