After 100 years of service, your library just got better. We are a fortunate community in many ways for the services that are offered. Strong library and information services are often indicators of quality places to live and with library services in 2007 keeping pace with what our community needs and networking with the world for sustainability, professional development, and resource-sharing, a foundation is solid for another year of library services that are strong, relevant, and an asset to northern Maine. At the heart of every service, each program, and every day at the library are the questions, “What can we do to make library services excellent and are we meeting the needs of our communities in a meaningful way?”
While many services were added in 2007, our programs enhanced, and technology improved, this year some exciting things are being implemented that have never before been attempted at the library. Look for announcements for e-audiobook subscriptions from NetLibrary available to you. This means you will be able to download E-audiobooks or MP3 players without cost. This adds a great deal of value to library services, and adds digital content to our already excellent printed collection.
In addition to digital e-audiobooks, the library is pleased to announce that it has been approved as an official passport agent for the U.S. Department of State. U.S. Citizens planning international travel may apply at the library soon. Again, look for announcements on Channel 16, in our Newsletter, and in local papers.
Diverse library and information services add convenience and value to your daily life are a welcomed addition to any community and ours is no exception. We look forward to service in 2008 with the familiar services you have come to expect and services that reflect our times and our desire to continue the vibrancy we bring to our Star City.
