Momentum Aroostook hosts social

PRESQUE ISLE – Momentum Aroostook is kicking off the New Year with a full calendar of events, starting in January with a wine-tasting social.
The social will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Nordic Heritage Center.
Participants will learn about the different flavors, aromas and characteristics of wine from Kimberly Kennedy of the Silver Basket. She will share some of the techniques sommeliers use in judging wines from appearance to finish and in assessing their overall quality. Participants also will have the chance to learn about (and taste for themselves) the types of cheeses and desserts that pair well with particular varieties of wine.
This is the first of 12 ‘anchor’ events that Momentum Aroostook has planned during 2008 for the area’s younger generation. Momentum Aroostook is a group of highly motivated Aroostook County young people between the ages of 20 and 40, connecting for career, social and community betterment. These anchor events serve as opportunities for networking, learning and fun with those who choose to live here but still want to enjoy some of the social and professional perks of big-city living.
Future events include an après-ski event at Big Rock, kayaking on the Aroostook River and an evening at the art gallery. Some events are family-friendly; others are a ‘night out’ for singles and couples. Please see Momentum’s Web site for a complete list of events.
Dress for the wine tasting is casual. Cost is $10 per person. For more information about MA, visit www.momentumaroostook.com.
