Finding cars running outside buildings is certainly not an uncommon event in the winter time in Aroostook County, and many locals think nothing of it. However county residents may wish to think again.     On Monday morning Caribou resident Nancy Conley stopped at Sleeper’s on Lyndon Street to pick up a few items.
“It was cold out and she was just going to be inside for a minute,” said Caribou Police Sgt. Ron Curtis.
Conley left her vehicle running outside the local business, with the keys in the ignition. When she returned at approximately 11:30 a.m. the vehicle was missing.
Caribou Police were notified immediately, and they gave notice to other police departments statewide. The vehicle has not been located currently, and a statewide search is still ongoing.
“I don’t think they had much of a head start,” said Curtis, who believes the vehicle is still somewhere in the area.
“We don’t have a whole lot of leads right now. We are continuing to look into it. It appears right now that it was just a random act,” said Officer Keith Ouellette, of the Caribou Police Department.
The vehicle is a four-door 1998 gold Ford Taurus. The license plate number is 9984 GQ. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the vehicle is encouraged to contact the Caribou Police Department at 493-3301.
