Starting the new year on skis

    CARIBOU – Starting off the new year on skis, area Aroostook residents participated in the annual Northern Skiers and Cary Medical Center’s New Year’s race to celebrate the beginning of 2008. Citizens gathered at the Caribou High School Ski Center to participate in events for all ages. The main event featured a five km citizen’s race. Sherry Dubis, of 10th Mountain, finished the women’s race in the fastest time of 19:31. Petr Jakl, of the Nordic Heritage Center, slid to the win in the men’s race in 15:37.    The remainder of the results follow by age group.

    Women from 20 to 29 years old: Alison Kieffer 23:55.
