Dr. Cindy Bouchard, center, has operated Family Chiropractic in Caribou for 10 years. Shown with her are her husband, Chad Bouchard, the office manager, and Denise Longley, who is the administrative assistant.

Family Chiropractic, located at 42 High St., opened its doors in May of 1998 after Bouchard returned to the area after completing her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa.
“We like the community,” she said. “We wanted to be close of our families.”
Indicative of that community affection, the practice’s property has been the site of the city’s Christmas tree for the past few years where children have gathered to greet Santa upon his annual arrival in Caribou.
Working with Bouchard is her husband, Chad T. Bouchard, who is the practice’s office manager. Denise Longley, who came to the practice in 2005, is the administrative assistant.  Longley later obtained chiropractic assistant certification by the Maine Chiropractic Association to aid with patient care.
The practice began at 143 High Street, but moved to the current location to allow for  expansion.
In addition to her chiropractic degree, Bouchard also holds certificates in pediatrics care and craniosacral therapy.
In talking about her practice, Bouchard is most comfortable discussing the field of chiropractics, which is “a science, an art and philosophy that concerns itself with the relationship between the nervous system and the function and health of the body.”
The nervous system controls every cell in your body, Bouchard explained. Nerve impulses flow from the brain, down the spinal cord and to every organ and tissue. Impulses sent back to the brain confirm that the body is working properly.
Bouchard said that moving bones of the spines can interfere with this exchange and pinched or irritated nerves can distort the message.
“Without proper nervous system control and monitoring, ill health results,” said Bouchard. “Chiropractic care helps restore the integrity of the nervous system. This has helped people with a variety of health problems, without drugs or surgery, for over 100 years.”
In addition to traditional methods of treatment, the practice purchased an “AquaMed” dry hydrotherapy table to promote quick pain relief and to better allow for painless and complete spinal adjustments.
“We have a wonderful relationship with our patients,” said Longley. “As a health care business, we share a common joy in aiding our patients to be healthy and at their best.”
