1958: Stockholm teachers receive X-rays in Caribou

100 years ago: Jan. 30, 1908
    Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Smith are rejoicing over the arrival in their home on Thursday, Jan. 16, of a fine baby boy.

    H. Price Webber, the veteran showman, is booked for a three nights’ engagement of P. of H. opera house on Feb. 25, 26, and 27.
    The second annual meeting of the Aroostook Publishers Association was held. Those present were C.C. Harvey of the Fort Fairfield Review, C.A. Lyons of the Houlton Pioneers, C.H. Fogg of the Houlton Times, E.L. Low II of the Mars Hill View and L. J. Pendell of the Aroostook Republican.
    Dr. H.H.Hammond, Van Buren’s popular and successful physician, was in Caribou.
    Aroostook had four thaws and several snowstorms during January.
    The Rev. J.W. Hatch of Bangor was scheduled to occupy the pulpit of the Methodist church the following Sunday.
    George P. Lind of Stockholm, who has been confined to the house several months by sickness, was reported to be improving in health.
75 years ago: Feb. 2, 1933
    The First Universalist Parish Church held its annual meeting.
    Mrs. Fred Forbes returned home from Cary Memorial Hospital where she had an operation.
    A special day meeting of the Women’s Literary Club was held at the home of Mrs. Maude Briggs on South Main Street in Caribou.
    Horace W. Johnson, examiner for the Interstate Commerce Commission was pictured on the front page. Hearings were held on rates for potatoes being shipped on the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad.
    Dr. F.L. Gregory left for New York to attend the New York Post Graduate Hospital for two months of special study.
50 years ago: Jan. 30, 1950
    A total of 823 Caribou people cast ballots during Caribou’s first “representative” town meeting.
    Three bids were considered for land to further develop the Caribou Municipal Airport.
    The budget committee of Cary memorial Hospital visited the facility in order to become more acquainted with the building.
    The teachers of the Stockholm School were in Caribou to get x-rays at the Teague Park School.
    Mrs. And Mrs. Almon McDougal received congratulations on the birth of a daughter.
    The Rev. Otto Palmer was pastor of the Woodland Baptist Church.
25 years ago: Feb. 2, 1983
    The Caribou High School Vikings’ boys team beat the Presque Isle Wildcats with a score of 61 to 45.
    A local pastor, the Rev. Harold Beesley Jr., outlined his thesis that rock music is a religious medium to the Caribou School Board.
    Ames Department Store was preparing to open in Caribou.
    Part-time jobs teach students responsibility, according to area guidance counselors.
    A barrel stave race was planned for the New Sweden Winter Carnival.
    Richard E. Brown was admitted as a new member to the VFW Post 9389.
