LORAN station welcomes visitors

    The LORAN Coast Guard station in Caribou, extends the invitation to visit the station to any interested parties.     The base which is manned by four Coast Guard personnell is situated on 300 acres of military reservation.
    The base houses equipment designed to send out the LORAN navigation beacon, which is used by both military and civilian ships and aircraft traveling from the United States to Europe.
    Taking advantage of the opportunity to tour the facility coming up will be 30-40 students from Caribou Middle School.
    Chief Skip Ripley, also encourages local businesses interested in providing services to the facility, such as landscaping and maintenance to contact the Caribou Chamber of Commerce at 498-6156/
    Those interested in visiting the facility are encouraged to call ahead to set up a time at 498-2584.
