The Limestone Selectpeople met recently to consider renewal of the dispatching contract with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department as well as to consider nominations for the Loring Development Authority Board of Directors. After brief discussion of the fire/police dispatching services provided by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, Fred Pelletier made a motion to renew the contract, which was seconded by Gary O’Neal. The board voted unanimously to approve the renewal of the contract.
The board also considered the nominations of Linda Page and Patrick St. Peter, to be reappointed for another term on the LDA Board of Directors. A motion was made by O’Neal seconded by Paul Poitras to accept the nominations. The board voted unanimously in favor of the motion.
The board also discussed the Chamber/Community Development Position, which had been suggested by Art Thompson previously, on behalf of the Revitalization Committee, to stimulate community growth. The board received minutes from the Revitalization Committee’s meetings thus far. The board was informed that the Revitalization Committee would be scheduled to give a presentation at the Budget Committee’s Mid-Year-Review at 7 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the Limestone Community School cafeteria.
The board also discussed questions about the Tax Increment Financing agreement with Loring BioEnergy LLC, and expressed an interest in meeting with Rick Solman, the town’s attorney to discuss these questions. Limestone Town Manager Donna Bernier agreed to speak with Solman to set up a meeting with the board at a future date.
Bernier also informed the board of the 2008 state valuation figures for Limestone, which have shown an increase of $2,150,000 over 2007 figures.
Bernier mentioned during her report that Limestone has received a snowmobile grant from the state in the amount of $9,227 to go toward trail grooming.
Also mentioned during Bernier’s report was the renewal of the police and fire contracts with the Loring Commerce Centre, which are set to expire on June 30, 2008. Bernier informed the board that she would be meeting with Carl Flora, chief executive officer of the LDA, and that she would set up a meeting with the board to further discuss the issue.
Bernier also mentioned that the Regional School Union Planning Committee held a meeting on Jan. 10. At the meeting the committee decided to wait until the legislature makes any changes to the law, if there are any, before planning any future meetings.
The next meeting of the Limestone Selectpeople will be held at the municipal building on Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
