MILLINOCKET – The Caribou Recreation “A” boys’ and girls’ basketball travel teams participated in a basketball event in Millinocket the weekend of Jan. 26 and 27. Saturday’s first game featured the girls of Caribou versus East Millinocket. The game came right down to the wire. At the end of the first quarter both teams were knotted up at four. Millinocket got hot in the second quarter, and ended the half with a 17-11 lead. In the third quarter Millinocket continued to pull away but the Vikings were not about to give up in the fourth quarter.
Caribou shot for 14 points compared to Millinocket’s four in the quarter to pull within one point. However, Caribou ran out of time and lost, 32-31. Players in the scoring column for the Caribou girls were Hannah Graham netting 11 points, Sarah Doak with eight points, Emily Sirois with six, Alana Sirois with four and Jessica Rowland with two points.
In the boys’ game, Caribou took charge early and opened the first quarter with an 11-0 lead. It was all Caribou with the final score, 48-8. Caribou’s scorers were Dylan Berkoski, who led the team with 10 points, Matt Frost with seven, Matt Milliard with six, Breen Blackstone with six, Donovan Savage with four points, Adam Collins with four, Matt Curry with four, Dayne Savage with two, Kameron Manter with two and Devin Cyr with two points.
On Sunday, the girls again fell short by one point against Millinocket in overtime. Graham dumped in 18 points to lead the Vikings. Doak finished with seven points. Morgan Outing put in two baskets. A. Sirois, E. Sirois, Rowland and Lauren Chapman each added two points.
The Caribou boys played an even game against Millinocket with an eight point lead in the fourth quarter. In the last minutes, the boys caught fire and outscored Millinocket 21-8 making the final score 61-40. Caribou’s top scorer was Savage with 17 points. Blackstone and Manter each scored eight points, Berkoski, and Frost netted six points each, and Milliard added five points. Collins swished a three-pointer and Savage, Michael Boone, Colby Holdsworth and Matt Curry dumped in two points apiece to help with the Viking win.
