PORTLAND – The Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute is pleased to announce that Raynold A. Gauvin, of Mapleton, has joined its board of directors. Gauvin is a longtime businessman with strong roots in Aroostook County. He is owner and president of Advantage Payroll Services. Gauvin has been actively involved in many community organizations and service clubs and has served on the boards of many of them. He is just completing a 10-year term on the board of Northern Maine Community College Foundation, where he successfully led a major gifts campaign that exceeded its goal of $2 million. These efforts not only resulted in increased scholarship monies for students, but also helped to create new initiatives and enhance facilities for existing ones.
“We are simply delighted to have Ray join our board of directors,” said Mary Mitchell Friedman, president of the Mitchell Institute Board. “He brings tremendous expertise in the financial field and a proven track record as a community leader and fund-raiser. Most importantly, we know he is deeply committed to Maine students.”
The Mitchell Institute is based in Portland and works throughout the state on a host of education aspirations and access issues. Most notably, the Institute provides a $5,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine, every year.
