Grades five and six girls’ basketball
    The Comets had a fourth-quarter come back to slip by the Stars, 24-20. Kelsey Burlock and Morgan Wilcox each netted eight points to lead the Comets. Emma Kinney and Jenna Hallett both chipped in with four points.  Krystal Kingsbury poured in a game-high 12 points to pace the Stars. Carly Bell added six points, and Jessica Cameron rounded out the scoring with two points.     The Comets kept up their winning ways, putting three players in double figures on their way to down the Liberty.
    Kinney led the way with a game-high 11 points. Hallett and Burlock netted 10 points each, while Abby Clark and Bridgette Carrier tallied two points apiece.
    Jordi Legassie was the high scorer for the Liberty with four points. Amanda Palmer added three points, and the trio of Ashley Trask, Bailee Robichaud and Kelsey Gilson all contributed two points.
Grades five and six boys’ basketball
    The Celtics used a balanced scoring attack to down the Spurs in a thriller, 22-21.
    Nick Raineri poured in a team-high eight points for the Celtics. Noah Rossignol added six points, all coming in the second quarter. Jacob Keane, Keeghan Lowe, Patrick Burnett and Travis Sylvain contributed two points apiece. Cody McGlinn scorched the nets for a game-high 11 points to lead the Spurs. Andrew Paterson netted six points, and Jacob Carter finished with four points for the Spurs.
    Burnett lit up the scoreboard for a game high 25 points to lead the Celtics past the Clippers, 42-34.
    Kyle Nadeau popped in seven points, and Lowe added six points. Sylvain rounded out the Celtics’ attack with four points.         Ben Buckley paced the Clippers with 14 points. Austin Thibeau and Grayden Hemphill notched eight points apiece, and Brian Fournier and Jordan Lyford finished with two points each.
    The Spurs put six players in the scoring column en route to the 36-27 victory over the Pistons.         Paterson and McGlinn each reached double-digits, both registering 10 points. Liam Hughes and Ryder Soucy tallied six and four points, respectively. Carter and Aaron Kofstad both scored three points to round out the attack.
    Chase Norton poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the Pistons. Jamey Lessard added five points, and Matthew Tilley chipped in with two points.
February vacation activities
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be offering activities daily during the February school vacation.
    There will be open gym each day from 1 to 3 p.m. for elementary students and 3 to 5 p.m. for junior high and high school students.
    Tuesday: “Take It Outside” at the Aroostook State Park. Come try your hand at snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sliding and other outdoor activities. The fee is $5. The event is open for children in grades four to eight. Please pre-register.
   Wednesday: Snow-tubing at Big Rock. The fee is $10. The event is for children in grades five to eight. Please pre-register.
   Thursday: Bowling at Northern Lanes from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee is $3. The event is open to children in grades one to eight. There will also be free ice skating at the Forum from 1 to 3 p.m. for all Presque Isle residents.
 Friday: Movie at Caribou Cinemas. The choices are The Spiderwick Chronicles or Veggies Tales. The fee is $5. The event is for children in grades one to five. Please pre-register.
High school indoor soccer tournament
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host its annual indoor soccer tournament for high school students Saturday, Mar. 15 at the Northern Maine Community College.
    The tournament has a 5-on-5 format and teams are limited to 10 players.
    Deadline for registration is Friday, Mar. 7 at noon.
    Entry fee is $70 per team. For more information contact the recreation office at 764-2545.
“Little All-Stars” sports class
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks is once again offering its sports class for boys and girls ages four and five.
    Participants will be introduced to five different sports, including basketball, soccer, floor hockey, football and t-ball.
    Through games and instruction, the focus will be on fun and the basic fundamentals of each sport.
    The class is held Friday mornings from 10:30 to 11:15 at the recreation center. The program runs from Mar. 7 to Apr. 4. Registration begins Feb. 19.
Presque Isle Indoor Pool
    The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will be offering an American Red Cross lifeguard class Feb. 21, 22 and 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    You must be 15 years old by Feb. 23 and be able to swim 300 yards doing front crawl and breaststroke. You must pre-register for this class.

Middle school only night
    Open gym hours are on offer Friday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for middle school students. Students in grades are invited to come to the recreation center to participate in open gym and various activities.
    Possible group trips, such as skiing and bowling may be scheduled for future dates.
Youth open gym
    The gym is open for youth each Saturday and Sunday. Hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. for elementary youth and from 3 to 5 p.m. for middle and high school students.
Archery
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be offering an archery program for youth and adults on Sundays from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
    This is an informal, drop-in, program with a $6 fee for each night of shooting.
    Participants may bring their own equipment, and there will be some available for those whom do not have equipment.
Grades one and two little wildcat basketball
    The Department has begun registration for the Little Wildcat basketball program at the William V. Haskell Community Center.
    The program is offered to boys and girls in first and second grades, and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays after school at the community center. The registration fee is $15. The program begins the week of February 25th.
Youth cross country skiing program and rentals
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be teaming up with the Nordic Heritage Center to hold a youth cross country skiing program this winter.
    The program will be for students grades one to eight. The program will run on Wednesdays from Feb. 27 to March 26 for grades one to five, from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m.
    There will also be meetings on Saturdays from Jan. 19 to March 29 from 10 a.m. to noon, with the exception of Feb. 23.
    The fee for the program is $15. Skis are available for rental through the season at MOJO’s for $50. Please call 764-2545 for more information.
Big Rock ski passes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has discounted lift tickets for Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill.
  Junior (ages 6 to 17) lift tickets will be sold for $17, while adult lift tickets will be sold for $22. Call 764-2545 with any questions.

    If your child has had their team picture taken and you would like an electronic copy, please email adampirec@maine.rr.com with your child’s name, sport and team name.
Adult evening activities
    Evening activities for adults have started. Activities run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    Co-ed volleyball is on Mondays, men’s basketball is on Tuesdays and Thursdays and co-ed dodgeball is on Wednesdays. There is a $1 fee per activity, and proper footwear is required.
