BRUNSWICK – The Presque Isle varsity swimmers showed off their tag team skills in the Class B state swim meet at Bowdoin College. The boys dove into their lanes on Feb. 18. Gerard Desjardins, Matt Harris, Mike Yu and Kyle Gilson captured 18th for PIHS in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:17.49 and 19th in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:56.40.
The quartet qualified for the consolation finals of the 400-yard freestyle relay and took 12th in 4:30.44.
Head coach Joyce Price saw marked improvement for all members of the team. “We doubled our size for the year, and I was really happy to see the boys place at states,” said Price.
In the girls’ meet on Feb. 19, Allison Young, Karrie Brawn, Emilee Currie and Courtney Hoffses competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay for 16th in a time of 2:03.37, and in the 200-yard medley relay in 17th with a time of 2:23.98. Young, Brawn, Currie and Shae Adler placed 17th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:42.80.
The relay squads have come together over the course of the season to push each other to faster times.
“It’s funny, almost all the kids on the relay team have the same lap time,” commented Price.
Hoffses represented the Wildcats in the 200-yard individual medley and swam to 40th in 2:50.09.
