PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Local youth helped raise over $1,500 for the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club as they took to the stage to entertain the audience at Presque Isle Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 26.    The 56th annual Talent Revue saw 19 entries compete in four categories, including: elementary school, grades 1 through 5; middle school, grades 6 through 8; high school, grades 9 through 12; and college. This year’s program went smoothly.
“Luckily, everything went well – no glitches,” said Kathie Beaulieu, member of the Kiwanis Club board of directors. “This year’s show was very well attended and we were very happy with the number of people who showed up.”
“It was very well-attended with over 300 in the crowd,” added Kiwanis member Craig Green.
Serving as emcees for this year’s event were Keith Madore and Shawn Cunningham.
“They were very good. They joked with the crowd and really made the event fun for everyone,” said Green.
First- and second-place awards were presented in each category.
In the elementary division, Lillie Mahan and Kimberly Cook took first with a clogging dance routine, with Jordan Buckley placing second with a vocal performance. Middle school student Chelsey Carroll juggled her way to first place, with the MoonDance Star Cloggers dancing their way to second. Sarah Gorneault’s ballet dance number garnered her first place in the high school division, with Danielle Lane singing her way to second. And in the college division, Cortney MacDonald sang and played the piano to take first place, with Elizabeth Heuer’s vocal performance taking second.
Also performing were: elementary school students – Dylan Shaw, with a vocal presentation; Abigayle Clark performed a flute solo; Kelsey Gilson shared a jazz dance number; and Dylan LaMothe, with a magic performance. At the middle school level, Jordyn Shaw sang for the audience, with Melissa McKenney performing a self-choreographed hip-hop dance number. High school students included: Shayna da Cruz, with a lyrical dance; Maddasin and Sophia Willette, singing a vocal duet; Kyle Maier performed a ballet/hip-hop dance routine; Julia Brown and Matt Flora, with their vocal duet; and Julea Gorneault entertained with a hip-hop routine.
The Presque Isle High School Key Club also entertained during the evening’s festivities.
“High ticket sales this year went to Chelsey Carroll, with Kimberly Cook being the second highest in sales,” said Beaulieu.
Beaulieu said the night went well, thanks to the many “brave” performers on hand.
“They are brave little souls. No one backed out and they seemed to enjoy the chance to show their talents on the stage,” said Beaulieu.
For the finale, cast and audience joined together to sing “America the Beautiful.”
After expenses, Beaulieu said about $1,500 was raised for the Kiwanis Club.
