The Caribou Middle School Lady Vikings closed their 2007-’08 seventh grade basketball season Tuesday, Jan. 22 with a 36-12 victory over the Presque Isle Middle School Blue team.    The Vikings frontcourt rebounded their way to numerous second chance opportunities in the second quarter to give their team a double-digit lead and never looked back.
The Vikings were lead by Alexa Massey with 14 points. Rebecca McDougal and Jessica McNeal chipped in seven points each. Also scoring were Emma Duplessie-Cyr, Olivia Sleeper and Ashley St. Peter with two points each.
Sara Huston added two free throws down the stretch to dash any hopes of a late game comeback for Presque Isle. The backcourt defense of Sleeper, McNeal and Anesha Hersey held Presque Isle’s heralded guards in check the whole game.
The second unit backcourt Courtney Burby, Ashley Richards and Ginger Kieffer logged important minutes allowing the Vikings starting lineup sufficient rest to finish strong.
The game was the finale of an 11 game winning streak to finish 13-2 on their season. During the run, the Vikings defeated the Shiretowners of Houlton three time and both Presque Isle teams twice.
The run also included victories over Wisdom, Fort Fairfield and Madawaska. The Lady Vikings, coached by Shelly Richardson, showed a marked improvement during the season, and look to a strong record next year.
