PORTLAND — Local Maine McDonald’s owner/operators and the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) announced 20 semifinalists for the 2008 Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball Awards, presented to one outstanding male high school senior and one outstanding female high school senior basketball player in the state. The award, the state’s highest basketball honor, recognizes the players’ performance on the court, as well as their contribution to their team and to Maine basketball.
SHOOTS – Houlton’s Rachel Foster is among the semifinalists for Miss Basketball and was chosen to play in the McDonald Senior All-Star game at Husson College on March 15.
Semifinalists for Miss Basketball are: Rachel Foster, Houlton High School; Marissa Albert, Fort Kent Community High School; Nicole Garland, Deering High School; Amanda Gifford, Lee Academy; Jill Henrikson, Morse High School; Coreen Hennessy, Fryeburg Academy; Brogan Liberty, Lawrence High School; Rachel Mack, Cony High School and Kelley Paradis of Nokomis Regional High School and Aarika Ritchie of Lee Academy.
Semifinalists for Mr. Basketball are: Kyle Donovan, Deering High School; Adam Kingsbury, Presque Isle High School; Sam Leclerc, Winthrop High School; Derek Libbey, Mattanawcook Academy; Ryan Martin, Maranacook Community High School; Jon McAllian, Bangor High School; Kris Noonan, Boothbay Region High School; Andrew Pullen, Cony High School; Lee Suvlu, Bangor High School and Ryan Weston, Bangor High School.
The six finalists (three girls, three boys) for Mr. and Miss Basketball will be announced after the high school basketball state tournaments are complete. The award winners will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Banquet on the evening of Friday, March 14, at Husson College’s Newman Gymnasium. The All-Star players, All-Star coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul Shooting Champions and the MABC Contributor Award honoree also will be recognized at the awards banquet.
