Biddeford – Quentin Merrill Blackstone, 56, died suddenly of a heart attack on Friday, March 7, 2008 at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born in Caribou, ME on June 16, 1951, a son of Wendell W. and Geraldine Morrell Blackstone. He attended Caribou schools graduating from Caribou High School in the class of 1969 where he was a member of the state championship basketball team and a member of the high school band. He later graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a BS degree in education.
Quentin taught social studies at the secondary level schools before becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) working in area hospitals and nursing homes. He retired in 2002 due to ill health.
Quentin was a member of the Common Connection Club in Biddeford & the Orchard Masonic Lodge #215 in Old Orchard Beach. He was raised (made a member) by his father on October 14, 1992, a 50 year member and Past Master of the Caribou Lodge #170. Quentin served as Master of the Orchard Lodge from 1999-2000. He was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine in June of 1997 and was Scribe for the Kora Medical Corp. He also was a member of the Valley Portland Consistory. He was an active member of the Second Congregational Church in Biddeford where he sang in the Church Choir, served as Clerk and also served as member of the Executive Board. He loved all types of history and enjoyed swimming and spending time in the Maine outdoors.
He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Burnap and a brother Jon Blackstone.
Surviving are his father, Wendell W. Blackstone of Lake Wales, FL; three brothers, George Blackstone of Lake Wales, FL, Wendell W. Blackstone, Jr. of Mt. Holly, NJ, Fred Blackstone & his wife Sheila of Denver, CO; a sister Kathy Kelsey of Woodbridge, VA. He also leaves his beloved Bonnie and all his mutual friends of Bill W., several nieces & nephews.
A celebration of Quentin’s life will be held at the Second Congregational Church, 19 Crescent St., Biddeford on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Marilyn S. Glavin officiating. A Masonic Ritual will be part of the service. Following services Quentin’s family and the Church will host a reception in the Church Vestry. A spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St. Biddeford, ME 04005. Memorial donations in Quentin’s memory may be made to the Orchard Masonic Lodge #215 or the Second Congregational Church.
